Law Clerk
Job Description:
This job is an approximately one-year position as a Law Clerk or “Staff Assistant” at a rapidly growing law firm. The clerk position is designed for a recently-graduated college student to gain a year of administrative and substantive legal experience before attending graduate or law school. With the realization that many students opt to take a year “off” between their undergraduate and legal educations, Leighton Legal Group, LLC works to create a mutually beneficial relationship with our Clerk. Our primary goal is that the Clerk gain valuable legal and administrative experience while providing the firm with fresh perspective and continued growth and support.
Nature of Job:
The Clerk provides attorneys with support in serving Client’s legal needs as well as performing complex administrative and support duties, many related to a specific area of law or specialized function of the law office. Areas of law vary on changing Client needs. These areas currently include Business Planning/ Formation/Transactions, Trust/Estate Planning, Estate Administration/Probate, Trust Administration, Guardianship, Alternative Dispute Resolution, Real Estate Transactions, and Planned Giving. Position responsibilities include drafting of correspondence; business filings with the Secretary of State, IRS and other agencies; Wills; Powers of Attorney; Trusts; pleadings; discovery; notices; summons; and affidavits. The Clerk will supervise or guide the activities of other personnel including part-time staff and interns. High levels of independent judgment, initiative, and problem-solving skills are required. Integrity, follow through, and confidentiality are important characteristics as well.
