Administrative/Legal Intern

Leighton Legal Group, LLC offers undergraduate students a two semester internship that will help them get the whole experience of working at a law firm. The first semester of the internship will focus primarily on administrative duties. The second semester will introduce the student more to the legal and substantive side of the law firm.

During the first semester, the main responsibility is Client interactions by manning the front desk/receptionist area. The Administrative Intern is responsible for the following tasks:

• Answer the phone.
• Take intake information and greet clients as they call or come in for appointments.
• File.
• Update the client information data base.
• Complete various semester-long projects.
• Organize and upkeep the reception area, work room, utility room, and storage room.

During the second semester the intern will work on more of the legal side which will include some of the following tasks:

• Perform legal research using Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education and other on-line legal data bases.
• Prepare 1st draft of pleadings and various documents.
• File pleadings with the Court.
• Perform Client’s administrative responsibilities.
• Make sure that files are properly organized.
• When needed, provide support to Administrative Intern in answering the phone, filing, opening and closing files.

This intern will also overlap with the next intern and help in training this intern and recruiting additional interns.

All interns at Leighton Legal Group, LLC will take on the responsibility of completing a practice area book for the firm. Practice area book include forms and instructions on how to perform tasks within each area. Also, interns help in planning client development events including the annual Holiday Open House in December.
